So far, so good. August 23, 2007
It works pretty much as promised. Still have a little trouble getting it to the right temperature selection for med, med rare etc. but I've managed. The only real problem I had was I didn't do the 2 reset buttons correctly to start with and of course nothing would work. Once I got that figureed out it's been pretty good.

Call Weber 1-800-446-1071 and get it Replaced! August 13, 2007

Just got off the phone with Weber. Received one of these as a gift and low and behold, it had the same problem as most of the previous reviews of the base not communicating with the digital readout (after resetting both with a paper clip and with brand new batteries in each, both on). Used twice under normal conditions with a charcoal grill. The probe was never crushed under the lid, we always left a space cracked.

After doing normal troubleshooting research online I found these reviews and can add that I have the same problem. But one reviewer said they took the time to let Weber know and that Weber actually did something about it. Rare for companies these days to support their product.

So I called Weber Support at 1-800-446-1071 (open 7 days a week from 7am - 11pm CST). I don't think my support person was as nice as the other reviewers but after assuring them that yes, I had the batteries in going the right way, etc and it still wasn't working, they offered to send me a new one. When I receive it, I am to package mine and send it to them at their expense. Now when I called, I wasn't expecting a new one, I would have been happy with a working solution or just a replacement base. I am also to use the new one and report back on how it is working. But don't call expecting a new one or they might just quit offering to replace anything for anyone. Just give them a chance and at least inform them of the problem in the first place.

When I mentioned I did online research to the support person and told her I found these reviews and discovered that the problem is common, I was a bit troubled by the fact that she gave me a bit of an attitude by saying it was not common because she receives thousands of calls and hadn't heard of it. So apparently most of the 80+ reviewers are happy to post reviews here at Amazon.com but not call the company directly. So I strongly recommend that any future reviewers do both and report back here.

While I would rate my phone experience as "ok" at least the company takes action to support their product. So I do credit Weber for giving their customer support the power to do so.

Better than the Maverick July 9, 2007
I originally bought the Maverick one that had 2 probes and it stopped working after 3 weeks. This one has been very reliable.

Buying For All Our Family and Friends July 8, 2007
My husband received this as a gift for standing up in a wedding over a year ago. We have used it on the grill as well as in the oven. The food is cooked to perfection every time. Unlike some of the other reviews, we have not had any problems with the probes. Not one little glitch with anything on the device.

For Christmas this year, we are buying this for all of our family and friends.

Do Not Buy July 8, 2007
I am giving this two stars because it is so great while it works. But my probe failed after a month or so. I am a sucker and loved this item and went and bought another one at the local store. And, again, probe failure after a a month or two. Do not buy this. Weber you are a great company; shame on you for putting your name on this.
