Easy to put together (even for an unhandy man such as myself), very easy to use, makes using the Weber 50% more convenient than using the standard kettle. The charcoal bin is a great feature and the work area is topnotch. Before you switch to a gas grill for convenience sake, look into this item.

The Weber 2005 22 1/2-Inch Performer, is just that a solid performer. I have been cooking with weber grills for as long as I can remember. The Performer adds all the things I love about about coal grilling with the ease of a propane ignition (a feature I did not plan on using but has turned out to be fabulous), coal storage, tool rack and a nice deck to handle food prep and is easy to clean. I have another 22 1/2 inch that is sitting idle for those times when I simply need more grilling surface. A great Weber product!

Don't give up on charcoal! July 6, 2005

I have always been a charcoal purist and a long-time Weber griller. My whole family is made up of charcoal die-hards but I work long hours and waiting for me to come home and fire up the grill simply made grilling on weekdays impractical. I began to browse the propane grills. I was having a VERY hard time paying so much more for an inferior grill (and what's up with the size and price of propane grills?!? It's like the next generation of the my-SUV-is-bigger-than-yours game, I guess). Also, I couldn't help but imagine the looks of disdain from my father-in-law and brother-in-law at the next BBQ event at my house. I JUST COULDN'T DO IT. When I found the Weber Performer, I knew I had found grill nirvana. Now my wife can fill the baskets with briquets (or I can the night before) and when I come home the coals are already gray. Now she's cut me out of the process entirely and is a grill master herself. This grill is a propane killer!

Just picked up my 2005 Performer over the weekend. Not sure how you can say the 2004 has a larger work platform. ACE Hardware had the 2004 assembled next to a 2005 and the difference was obvious. The 2005 is larger. I also like the charcoal bin on the side and not on top.

My only dislike is that the lid doesn't have a hook and resting the lid on the left side doesn't allow a full range of motion. Must work under the lid somewhat.

Overall that's a minor issue, this grill rocks! I could not be happier with this purchase. Especially since it came with the hinged grate and charcoal containers for indirect grilling.

This is the end-all-be-all of charcoal grills.
