Sharpens Well, But Case Flaps Break September 15, 2008

This little knife sharpener is a neat item and could be a five-star product if they used the right kind of material for the flap hinges. The case is held shut by two flaps made with plastic/rubber hinges. One of the flaps broke off after using it about ten times - the store where I bought it gave me a replacement sharpener and I was very careful not to bend or stress the hinges too much - but even though, one of the flaps broke off the second sharpener after about 20 uses.

The hinges aren't made of the right material for repetitive opening and closing - they fatigue within the first few uses and then break off. Once the flaps break off, there is no way to secure the clam shell case other than with a rubber band.

If they fixed this design flaw and made a durable hinge, I would certainly buy another one, but at this point I couldn't recommend the product.

Seems to work well! September 12, 2008
Haven't used this knife sharpener only a couple of times thus far - have the Furi knife and decided to try it - be careful opening the sharpener. Once used, I found that the blade edge of the knife sharpened well. Am happy with this purchase.

I absolutely adore this- I am a chef. August 12, 2008
Although I don't work as one, I graduated as a chef and I have a really good knife set, but it's already 9 yrs old. I used the diamond fingers on them and they are like new!!! I am buying a few to give as gifts- having sharp knifes makes prepping (mise-en-place) so much faster and easier.

This sharpener is great for maintaining sharp knives, but I have been disappointed in its effect on my older knives. They improved some, but not to a honed edge. Perhaps I was expecting too much. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
