5 out of 5 stars Just right for a small countertop   April 3, 2008

I bought the little zo to replace a beloved and well-used Breadman machine. I could not find a replacement bucket for the 12 year-old Breadman, and was tired of prying my bread out of the pan. This Zojirushi model was the only model I could find with a small footprint, as I don't have much counter space. After making a few loaves of bread in it, however, I am sorry I waited to buy it as long as I did. The machine is whisper quiet! The breadpan is heavy, and creates a nice crust. I do not need to make loaves bigger than one pound, so I am extremely pleased with this machine. It is just right for me.

5 out of 5 stars Expensive, but just right for a single or two person househould   March 29, 2008

I bought this breadmaker in January, 2008. I have used it 6 - 7 times. I really like it. I didn't think I would ever buy a breadmaker as I like making my own bread & I really received a lot of satisfaction from the hands on of kneading & knowing I did it. I loved the smell of baked bread, but I noticed I didn't make much bread this winter like I normally do. This machine makes a nice compact loaf & I have made pizza dough. It takes 1 3/4 hours to make pizza dough & about 3 hours to make bread. It is real easy to prepare the ingredients (it takes bread flour in most recipes) and you can have it in the machine and started in 5 minutes. The pan is real easy to clean too, but sometimes have trouble getting the bread paddle out of the bottom of the pan. I keep the breakmaker on the counter as it doesn't take up much room. I am happy with my purchase except that it was a lot of money, but to buy bread is a lot of money (over $3.00 for a loaf) so maybe I will eventually recoup in not buying bread. Plus a loaf of boughten bread went bad before we ate it all, this way, I am not wasting food & I am going green I guess with no bread packaging!!

If you don't mind spending money, this is a good machine, real easy to use, easy to clean, and overall everything everyone said.

5 out of 5 stars Great little machine   March 21, 2008

Since I don't find bread machine bread to be all that great, I use the machine mainly for dough with the occasional loaf of bread.

For pizza dough it works great. In an hour and 45 minutes I have perfect dough and don't have to worry making sure water temperatures are right or that I have a good warm place to let the yeast rise. It mixes thoroughly and is very easy to clean afterwards.

For bread I found the hole at the bottom from the paddle is hardly noticeable. As others have said it makes a great sized loaf for a single person. I tend to just use the machine to make the dough and then shape it and throw it on a baking stone in the oven. Bread machines can't quite recreate the crust of a good oven baked bread in my opinion.

We were a little hesitant about buying a bread machine that was double the price of many others, but this was the only small loaf bread machine we could find. We love Zojirushi machines (water boiler & rice cookers) so we were pretty sure we'd like this too. Too bad Amazon doesn't ship to Canada as we had to ship it to our American address, and then bring it on an airplane with us to our Canadian address.

The bread turns out really nice. We use all purpose Canadian flour, which is as good, if not better than American bread flour. Our favorite is the Quick Method Raisin Bread, and it only takes appx 2.5 hours!

We wanted to experiment with making red bean paste swirled in white bread, but haven't had much luck. The machine just mixed in the paste so well that it just became part of the bread. We had this type of bread in Japan a couple times before. Maybe if we throw the paste in during the first and second rise, it might turn out better?

Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker
This is my first Breadmaker machine and I love it. It does all that one would expect from a breadmaker. Cleaning is easy so long as you allow the container to COOL FIRST, then I use COLD water to wash out residual dough, then wash in hot water and soap. I've made cake, regular white bread, french bread(my favorite), Banana Nut Bread(really more of a cake).
Couple things to know...get the bread flour, quick acting yeast, and dry milk powder from your supermarket; these will be used regularly. If you are not the type to read instructions, then read this...spoon your flours into a measuring cup that has a flat rim and then level using a knife or flat utensil; do not shake it down or tamp it down. The supplied measuring cup that is plastic is ONLY FOR LIQUIDS.
And lastly, if you are the type to experiment(I am), then do yourself a favor and NEVER set it and forget it! Your dough may rise much higher than you expect and can overflow around the sides of the container and then get baked into the machine. This will not be a fun experience. You will be much better off if you watch the process and remove dough if you find during your experiment that you have too much.
If you do follow the recipes, then you have no worries and can expect to use this breadmaker for years to come with always fresh and delicious bread!
