5 out of 5 stars the quintessential blender   August 3, 2007

indeed the price tag is a bit steep, but don't let that dissuade you. i previously owned a high end kitchenaid and while it was not bad, i still had to rock it back and forth, especially when making frozen drinks. after seeing vitamix demos at sam's club and hearing rave reviews about the blendtec, i finally decided to research the two. i'm so glad that i went with the blendtec...i use it 6 days a week on average for a variety of things, including making smoothies, grinding flaxseed, making dips, blending soups...the list goes on and on. overall, i have been very happy with my purchase. while it is not perfect, i highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars great blender but not really a juicer when it comes to hard veggies   July 22, 2007

Just bought this today with the hope that it would make wonderful carrot juice (since Trader Joe's no longer carries our favorite organic carrots-and-greens juice). Unfortunately, you have to add water to get the carrots and greens (celery, parsley, etc.) to blend, and there is still too much fiber for the kids to drink it. Then i tried removing the fiber with a strainer, but the resulting juice was too watery (from adding water to the blender), so it just didn't work. On the other hand, it's terrific for making fruit juices -- we threw a few handfuls of frozen berries with a splash of orange juice and it was DELICIOUS and smooth. The blender really does smooth out everything, even the raspberry seeds. So, as long as you don't want to make carrot juice, this is a terrific blender. (Warning: we tried to make some healthy sorbet, but it was difficult to get just the right mix of fruit and ice, and we usually ended up with a yummy smoothie instead of something spoonable. I'm confident we'll eventually figure it out. Most of the Blendtec icecream recipes call for nondairy creamer -- not exactly on our menu.)

5 out of 5 stars I want to marry this blender   June 18, 2007

I use this twice a day to make smoothies or nut/seed meal. It works gorgeously, the presets generally do the trick, but you can also use it's variable speed buttons to personalize your experience (10 speeds..1 being apple sauce speed, 10 being liquify a golfball speed). Best purchase I've ever made for my kitchen.

5 out of 5 stars Power and Simplicity   May 22, 2007

This is the most amazing tool for my kitchen. Flour from wheat grains in two minutes!! Try tossing a few tomatoes,a stalk of celery, half an onion, and whatever else you like with a little coconut milk, whip it up for a minute and you have a hot cream of tomato soup not to be believed.
I use it 4 or 5 times a day, have retired my stick blender and juicer as this does the job better and faster.
I like that I can push just one button, one time, and let it do its thing without supervision. I can hide spinach in banana bread and no one has a clue. It takes some experimenting to learn just how much more flavor some things have when liquified - a clove of garlic has a lot more impact when liquifed than when merely minced, for example - but with a little practice I am now winging it with very nice results.
My sense is that having the veggies broken down so completely allows
more nutrition from each piece of food than simply chewing would yield. So not only am I ingesting more fruits and vegetables than I did before because it's so fast and easy, but I'm getting more benefit from each bit. It's not costing me any less, but I'm finally getting my value from the foods where it counts.

I have diverticular problems, but now I don't have to worry about raspberry seeds in my smoothies because they disappear, flax seeds are now safe for me as are many other similar foods.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that I feel this to be the best money I ever spent on my health and my palate as a delicious, nutritious liquid is only 45 seconds away; a minute or two if I want it warmed.

5 out of 5 stars I love this blender!   May 12, 2007

I know the $400 price tag is a bit much to digest at first, but its well worth the money for this magical blender. For anyone who is serious about their blending this is a must have for the kitchen or bar. I bought a book called "Greens for life" along with the blender and it has changed my life for the better.
