1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this unit   May 24, 2008
This product is not good in city where there are many radio stations. Audio is not good, lot of static. It is not worth the money. Not specially in NYC.

2 out of 5 stars PMK 5800 cannot be used in populated areas   April 17, 2008

PMK 5800 cannot be used in populated areas.

The product is designed and engineered very well. I think this is a very clever idea. Its dimensions fit my car (Audi A4 2006) perfectly. Nice lighted controls, easy setup. PMK 5800 picked up my AT&T Tilt voice recognition with no additional setup.

However, there is a fatal problem in this design - you cannot use it in populated areas with lots of FM stations. I live 60 miles from Boston. Every odd FM channel here is taken. Even channels in between deliver a lot of interference from surrounding odd channels. No matter what you do - you cannot beat the FM environment around you. PMK 5800 has a weak FM transmitter so the better audio system you have the less chance you get any recognizable sound out of PMK 5800. It delivers an overwhelming background noise. Forget MP3 music playback.

Simple design change could alter the future of this product - ability to output through its already existent mini USB port. With this capability PMK 5800 could be integrated through cassette player adapters or directly through vehicle's stereo system.

Unfortunately I have to abandon this product in its current state and do not recommend it to anybody outside Siberia

1 out of 5 stars Parrot PMK5800 Not as good as I had hoped   March 3, 2008

Item did not have the solid quality I had expected. Found it frustrating and awkward to activate voice recognition and did not find the instructions to be comprehensive. Also found that my Treo crashed each time I paired with the PMK. I have abandoned using it. Bummer.

3 out of 5 stars Convenient... but   February 28, 2008

First of all I'd like to give it 2.5 stars since for its price & functionality, I think it's not that bad.
Below are my point of view base on its advantage & disadvantage:
(I use it on my convertible & pair with Samsung very basic flip model phone. and I never tried it while the top is open.)

*I think before you purchase this, you have to realize this PMK5800 is using your car's FM radio to transmit incoming phone call. So don't expect the sound quality will be as close as the real sound. You will somehow hear some static noise from car speaker since the radio signal issue. That's why it's call "plug & play"...

Advangtage:
1. PMK5800 will ask you to record "voice tag" for each contact and store them in the device, so when you do the voice dial it will correctly find the right contact name. For me it's 70~80% accuracy.

Disadvantage:
1. The microphone is right on the device so it's over 20inch far from you, you might need to speak louder while driving.
I think that's the only drawback I don't like. I wish they can have an extension wired microphone that allow you to adhere somewhere like dashboard, handling wheel or closer.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy this dog   February 13, 2008

I rarely got the product to work - it would connect and then disconnect. When it did work, the audio quality was terrible and the volume too low. The menus were too confusing - couldn't figure them out (and I'm an engineer). I tested it with my Verizon XV 6800 Pocket PC phone - and later found from a friend that this company's products have problems with HTC produced Pocket PC's (which manufactured the phone), and this is according to their own technical support people.
