Do not buy!, September 6, 2007
By Margaret Thomas "tygerkittn" (Norcross, GA USA) - See all my reviews

This arrived shattered into pieces, the box shredded, as has happened to many other reviewers of this brand, and amazon sent a new one out BUT I have to somehow repackage the broken one and send it back. I can barely lift this thing, I don't know of any box that will hold it and it won't get far in the original box, since it's in shreds. I have to print a label and LUG this monster down to the US post office (do they even accept 40-50 lb boxes?) because amazon will charge me for TWO if I don't, because obviously it's my fault they sent it without any packaging around it. I wish I'd never bought this piece of junk.

I love it , I can fit my whole turkey in there, much more tender than any other turkey I have made.

3 out of 5 stars More about amazon than Bayou Classic   January 17, 2007

This would be a great product, if you can actually get one UNDAMAGED from Amazon. I received the first pot, with a small crack in the lid, so I requested a replacement from Amazon (Ohh and the first pot had been returned and re-sent to about a half dozen people, as indicated by the half dozen different UPS labels all over the box.. Beware of Amazon resending damaged goods!)

The second pot came in, RUSTED and with a HUGE crack down the entire side. OK, Amazon, get a clue. Obviously the thin cardboard box these 50lb pots come in is NOT enough padding to prevent shipping damage.

You can get these same pots for the same price from Target or Home Depot, so maybe I'll try there since all Amazon would do is refund my money after pot #2 came in damaged..

These pots are not pre-seasoned, which is a bit of a pain (and hence, my 2nd pot came in with lots of rust.)

And, Amazon, re-shipping damaged goods to other people, hoping they won't notice the "small" crack, is really unethical.. Buyer beware of Amazon :< I never realized they would do something like that, and it really dropped my opinion of Amazon.

you cant beat the price for the quality and overall niceness off this piece,a super value in a dutch oven market

3 out of 5 stars It's huge!!! Bought it without really considering how big it'd be   January 6, 2007
It's roughly 18in wide and 8 in deep. As far as the quality goes, it seams to be made pretty good. I found out, by watching a show called "The Secret Life of... Cowboy Cooking", that the raised edge of the lid is to set hot burning coals on the top. Some dutch ovens have "feet" on the bottom, to set coals underneath too... this one doesn't. But it could be set on a "tuscan" type grill, to set coals under it to cook from top and bottom.

Quite honestly I haven't actually used it yet. I do have some ideas though, like doing some stews, pot roasts, etc. out doors... setting it up in my firepit.
