5 out of 5 stars Great Remote Thermometer   July 12, 2007
This is a great addition to my smoking/grilling equipment. It allows me to leave the smoker or grill and work on something else without having to worry about the grill temperature. It records both the grill temp. as well as the temp. of the meat and will warn you when the temp. is too low or too high and then when the meat is done. Its a great GREAT tool for making smoking and grilling much easier.

2 out of 5 stars Don't use on a grill   June 26, 2007

I admit I purchased it to measure grill temperature and not smoker. Unfortunately, that means I cooked the probe, even though I didn't go over the specified tempertature. Maybe the end touched the grate or something. Anyway, some red stuff oozed out the back and it doesn't work any more. At least I still have the food probe; and I got to get a good idea of how temperature relates to the gas settings bvefore it died.

1 out of 5 stars Awful   June 8, 2007

I treated my unit like gold and it failed twice after three uses. First, the smoker probe shorted out after two uses. The temperature in the smoking chamber never reached the probe's temperature threshold; it was just a lousy part. Then, on the third use (after replacing the smoker probe), the on/off switch completely snapped off. There was no way to repair this tiny, flimsy part so the entire unit is now in the trash. I couldn't have taken better care of this product, so I was very upset when it broke.

Even when the product worked, it was really difficult to use. There are two digital units and you have to turn one on, then the other within 5-10 seconds in order for them to sync up. That wouldn't be so bad if the on/off switch for one of the units wasn't UNDERNEATH the battery cover. The battery cover itself isn't easy to get on and off either--it has a rotating lock mechanism that is completely unnecessary. The whole thing is counterintuitive.

In addition, I found that the unit's transmission range was no more than 15' when going through my home's exterior wall. I expected the range to be diminished, but not by quite so much.

Bitterly disappointed with this item!!!

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great   May 18, 2007

This thermometer is a great tool. Its a little quirky in spots. For example on the receiver piece, you have to take the battery cover off to turn it on, not so with the transmitter. Nice and accurate, and the alarm features are pretty nice. The range is not as good as advertised, but perhaps about 50'.

4 out of 5 stars A Must Have   April 17, 2007

If you have a smoker or grill and cook meat at temuratures lower than 400, it is a must. It is especially needed if your grill or smoker is NOT gas or electric as it can become quite tiresome running in and out of the house checking on the dome temp.

The only complaint I have is the range is not great through walls. I have a wireless meat thermometer by Weber that has a much greater range. But, it is still worth the purchase.
