It made me a better cook December 21, 2007
Oregon Scientific AW129 Wireless BBQ Thermometer with Probe Thermometer and Remote

This is advertisted just for BBQ but I use it for everything I cook in the oven. As a guy, I'm not an experienced cook and I overcooked most things and occassionally served undercooked food. Most people don't know that oven temperature guages are junk...50 degrees off in my Hotpoint.
This fixed all my problems on day one.
It's very simple to learn to use. Just stick the probe in the fish or meat and turn on the transmitter and receiver. I watch TV in another room and this lets me know 5 degrees before it's perfectly cooked. Then it tells me when the ideal temp is reached.
Just run the cable out of the oven and turn it on. (only warnings: turn the oven transmitter on first...and keep the insulated cord clear of burner elements.
All of a sudden I'm a hero in the kitchen.

If your using this product in a conventional oven, it would be wonderful, but it says "BBQ" in the title. I kept the plastic base far away from flame, but the probe HAS to go into the meat. Some chicken fat fell on the coals and caused a five second flare up. The probe instantly registered 199, which I found funny since the probe was deep in the chicken, not on the skin. I reset the unit and still registered 199. Turns out 10 hours at room temperature and it stills registers 199. I called customer service and the warranty doesn't cover against flame. Considering that all BBQ's use flame you may want to think twice about buying this product if you are using it for a BBQ.

This is a fantastic wireless thermometer. I have one and have purchased several of them as gifts for friends--everyone loves it! You'll never have overdone meat again. What's also great is that you can use it w/the oven or BBQ. I highly recommend it!

I have several temp probes and liked everything about this probe except one thing: the probe connection to the pod was way too loose. The slightest jarring disconnected the probe. After reattaching it several times during one roast, I gave up.

Yep, same thing happened to me. Worked great for awhile, helped with the best pork loins I've ever tasted.

After less than 10 uses, it quit....
