5 out of 5 stars powerful, quality mixer   April 1, 2008
I've given up on purchasing cheap mixers at walmart and the like. This mixer is well-worth the money. Its motor is quite powerful and it makes short work of heavy doughs as well as it creates stiff peaks in egg whites. The variety of speeds is appropriate and useful. I've had good like with this and many other kitchen aid appliances.

5 out of 5 stars Great mixer   March 20, 2008
This mixer works very well and is very heavy duty. We use it for everything from whipping cream to whipping potatos and it does a great job with ease.

4 out of 5 stars Good hand mixer   March 18, 2008
I purchased this when my 11 year old Cuisinart hand mixer unexpectedly died on me in the middle of making a cake. I was attracted to this one because of the 9 speeds and because the other reviews were favorable (plus, Amazon offered a good price). I did not like my old one (was given to me as a wedding shower gift, so I did not pick it out) because the slowest speed was still quite fast and often caused liquids to splash out of the bowl. This mixer doesn't seem to have that problem and I really like that aspect of it. However, on the flip side, the highest speed doesn't seem to be as fast as my old one. Maybe I just need to adjust to it, but I was a little disappointed that it didn't seem to go as fast as I thought it should. There seems to be little incremental difference between each speed. Overall, I am happy with it.

5 out of 5 stars KitchenAid Mixer   March 17, 2008
I love my 9 speed KitchenAid hand mixer. My last KitchenAid mixer lasted many years
and was a pleasure to use. While I was waiting for the new KitchenAid, I purchased
every model at Walmart. They were a joke. No low speed and one advertised as
"extra boost power" even burnt out the first time I used it! I should have just paid the
extra for shipping and got my KitchenAid from Amazon in two days to begin with. Live & learn!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Mixer   March 15, 2008
We had always bought the traditonal mixers, which cost about 20$ or so. Since moving to our new home from abroad, we decided to invest in higher qualities for longer-lasting performance. Thus, we bought a Swiss Bamix, a Kitchen Aid coffee maker, toaster, and mixer, and other durable things. That strategy is very satisfying for us.

This mixer is really very lovely. You can feel that the engine has a lot of power and that the rotation of the whisks is very controlled. Hence, no matter what speed, it performs marvelously. The handling is easier than I expected, the display is clear, and the buttons are directly next to the speed indicator on the top grip, which is a great place as it is natural to push the buttons when you are holding it. It is a bit heavy, but not much. If this lasts several years, we will be most satisfied, of course, but even now it is a much better product than what we could have gotten for cheaper.

On this note, we checked out reviews at Cook's Illustrated for this, and that website is just glorious (even if it costs a bit). But you should definitely try it for their scientific approach to testing equipment and recipes!
