4 out of 5 stars excellent   February 13, 2008
This machine does the job well. The procedure is easy, and the yogurt is tasty. But I didn't know it consumes the same amount of milk to make yogurt.

This is a perfect product for a perfect homemade yogurt. I have used this 3 times already since I received this last 2/1/08 & now it's 2/12/08 and about to make another one again today. Each time I used this I never encountered any problem but all the yogurt I made turned out perfectly done all the time. The only thing you need to provide before you start making your yogurt is the thermometer. This product do not come with thermometer but it wasn't a big deal since it can be purchased at Wallmart or on e-bay for a digital one. The thermometer is very important so you can get a right temperature whenever you added the starter yogurt. I highly recommend (Salton yogurt maker) this product to everybody who does like to eat a lot of yogurt and at the same time wants to save more money then this is all the product you need plus comes with a very easy & brief instruction to follow. This product is in a very reasonable price as well compared to another yogurt maker with the same result.

2 out of 5 stars fairly complicated to use   February 11, 2008

I thought I could try to learn making yogurt after buying this product. However it looks I will need thermometer or other tools as well.

I just finished my first batch of yogurt using this Salton appliance. It is very simple to use, easy clean up, and it's cute too (looks like a little R2-D2). The hardest part of making the yogurt (and it's not really hard, just time consuming) is getting the milk heated, then cooled and ready for the machine. I altered the recipe from the booklet that comes with the product just a tad--I wanted to make the closest thing to the Fage Greek yogurt I have been buying. I used 3.5 cups of 1% milk and .5 cups of heavy whipping cream, and used .5 cups of the Fage 2% as a starter. After 10 hours, I placed the batch (or as much as would fit) in the Cuisipro yogurt cheese maker. After about 4 hours (and after adding the rest of the yogurt from the Salton), I had FABULOUS greek yogurt--thick, creamy, with only a very slight tang...Delicious! For a first attempt, I am thrilled with both products and the end result. If you have been looking for a way to make your own, you can't beat both these products.

5 out of 5 stars Good purchase   February 9, 2008
We decided to try making yogurt after stating at Beau Rive in Dominica, where homemade yogurt is served at breakfast each morning. We had no idea how to do it, and I was a bit skeptical at the (low) price of this unit. Well, we love it. The instructions are simple and the yogurt is great. We found it best to use yogurt starter culture (from a local natural market) rather than using a cup of store-bought yogurt with live cultures. We;ve made 4 batches, and love it on pancakes with fruit preserves. Yum. Much has been written about the container and spoon - we find the container to be perfectly fine. The spoon isn't particularly useful, but you already have spoons, don't you? Click on it. Buy it.
