French Press Coffee maker August 23, 2008
This is a great little coffee press, and I do mean little. The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is because it only makes one "cup" of coffee. By the time you take the grounds into consideration there is only about 8-10 ounces of coffee. This is slightly less than a typical mug. I like it when I only need to make a cup for me, but when I have others, it is just not a solution. Once you have invested the time into grinding the beans. heating the water, waiting for the 3-4 minute brew time, and heating the cream, you may want more coffee. I intend to keep this one, since I often just want one cup of coffee, and buy another one for 4 persons. If you don't already have one, get a burr grinder; fantastic coffee with this and the French press.

Alas, like so many other products, this one has become cheap and shoddy. I bought my first Bodum french press almost 20 years ago. It lasted that long with regular use, made good coffee, and became much loved in my house. A few weeks ago I bought a replacement -- same company, same size, same model -- and much to my disappointment, this thing is a piece of junk. The metal parts are flimsy and about half the time the grinds slip past the filter, as well as the ridiculous plastic filter at the top. I'm throwing it away. It is that useless.

tiny, but well made July 20, 2008
I got this to replace my old, broken French press, which truly made three cups of coffee. This press makes enough coffee to fill one very small mug. I measured the amount of coffee I was able to get out of it, with the press filled to the metal ring near the top, and discovered that it was almost exactly 8 ounces. On the instructions, the maker calls one cup 4 ounces, and if you count the grounds at the bottom, and fill the pot to the upper lip, rather than to the metal ring, there are perhaps 12 ounces in the pot, but seriously, THIS IS A ONE CUP POT! That said, it is well constructed and makes a fine cup of coffee.

This press is a great pot and does the job just fine. I wish I had gotten the next larger size because I usually would like a second cup almost immediately. Otherwise, it's great!
