5 out of 5 stars Works Great, but...   August 18, 2008
This thing makes great egg McMuffins. The only downside is that you can only make one at a time, and once I get started with this thing everybody wants one and I end up having to make 4 or 5 egg McMuffins which takes a lot of time. I think I would opt for the model that lets you do two at time.

4 out of 5 stars My life is now complete   August 17, 2008

Now that I have been able to toast and poach simultaneously, I can now go to my maker with a feeling of completion. No longer needing to fear those "repetitive and harrowing transitions from awakening, dressing, and travelling to work" mornings.

I wanted to mix peanut butter with an egg and see how that goes, but when I read a previous review about dripping sausage grease, I realized that I didn't yet have the Mr. Bento Stainless-steel Lunch Jar or the recommended vacuum and revolving pizza maker to make my experience complete.

Fortunately for me, we bought this lovely item for about 50 cents at a thrift store to benefit people needing hospice care.

Promise your loved ones that you will only get them this item as a gift if you know that they drive through McDonalds more than four times a week. And if you do, well don't worry, because I will be sending my friends to thrift stores across the country trying to find more of these enticing items that was so ingeniously designed to maximize my cooking ability and save my last remaining vestiges of sanity that haven't been stomped on by some 30-something marketing major.

4 out of 5 stars The greatest impulse purchase I ever made   August 15, 2008
This thing is great. It takes a long time for eggamuffin to get old. This does just what it says and does it very well. My only complaint is that after lots and lots of use, the egg holder is not nearly as non-stick as it used to be. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

3 out of 5 stars Did not last long   August 9, 2008
Although this product does a good job and we enjoyed it, it died on us less than 6 months after we purchased it. It was only used a couple of times a week and I would have expected it to last much longer. We had to purchase a 2nd one and hope it lasts longer this time.

4 out of 5 stars Works very well   August 4, 2008

We recently had to replace our toaster because one of the cats had knocked it to the floor when jumping onto the counter. While researching for a new one I came across the Back to Basics TEM500 Egg-and-Muffin 2-Slice Toaster and Egg Poacher. A clever idea but how useful would it be in practice? However, the price was right and there would be no problems returning it to Amazon, so I ordered it. After using it for a month here are my observations.

1. Toasting performance: excellent; it may be the best toaster I have owned.
2. Cooking a poached egg: excellent and very easy to do.
3. Cooking soft/hard boiled eggs: not as good. The shells need to be pierced and sometimes the cooked egg will ooze from the hole. The bottom of the supplied water measuring cup has an egg piercer.
4. A complete toast/poached egg/Canadian bacon sandwich: perfect.
5. Cleanup: very easy.

Overall I am very pleased with the unit and would deinitely recommend it to others.
