My experience with this product..and some rebuttals October 28, 2008

It's pricey, it boils water quickly, and it's lovely to look at. It boils water.

* about the funny odor/taste - Mine doesn't have that problem so I'm guessing this product was redesigned OR a bunch of faulty ones were sold to consumers (which is too bad, but hopefully thanks to all the reviews those poorly mfrd ones were removed from the market)

* about the heating element turning white if you have hard water - That's going to happen with any electric kettle. The difference here is that you can see the element without opening the lid. You can use either a vinegar or other acid solution like lemon juice to clean that off, or you can buy a commercially prepared product to clean it. No matter what kettle you buy you should be cleaning and descaling it regularly.

* about water dribbling out of the bottom - That also has not happened with my kettle. It's been a few months now and this baby gets used daily. Often it is used multiple times per day.

* about that star I deducted - This kettle doesn't have the same capacity as my old stainless steel one did. I miss that extra capacity from time to time. But I don't miss all the visible fingerprints on the stainless kettle so when the stainless one died after 4 years of loyal service I wasn't too sad.

* the bottom line - I think this is a safe purchase. If you are concerned then you might want to buy it from a B&M store so that you are able to easily return it if necessary.

I bought this kettle 1 year ago. I previously had a S/S electric kettle with a plastic "on switch" lever at the base of the unit which broke off. I purchased the Capresso because the "on switch" is on the handle and would not break off. This is advertised as having automatic shutoff. This is incorrect. If the kettle is empty you can accidentally switch it on and it will NOT shut off. (I returned one unit and was told it should not do this. The second unit has done the same thing so I believe it is an inherent design flaw.) On several occasions I have attempted to use it and found the unit quite warm as it had drawn power all night after being accidentally switched on. Alas, this morning I discovered it is now completely broken and I assume the motor just burned out.

Glass kettle is great October 17, 2008

This was the electric kettle recommended by Comsumer Search. My mother in law moved in with us and she likes all her beverages warm, so I wanted a unit that could stand up to repeated use every day. I'm glad I ordered it. A glass kettle is ideal- you can see the water level 30 feet away without needing to glare into a small gauge, you can see the stages of heating...so you can cut it off if you don't want a complete boil, it's very easy to clean, the 360 base allows it to be placed down simply, it heats water very quickly (about 5 min when full with cold water). The unit looks good, and becuase it's see though, it looks less intrusive than a stainless or plastic container.

Some readers said they smell/taste a chemical scent from a faulty gasket or something. I've never had this problem, and I think you won't either, since it's all glass with a stainelss steel heating element. I'm extremely happy with this product- it has my recommendation.

Great Kettle, super fast and great looking October 15, 2008

This kettle looked great on the site compared to the other ones that look like they belong in someones dorm room. I keep this one on my desk for hot water throughout the day. The kettle looks good, is easy to use and heats water really quickly. The max fill line is 6 cups, which is enough for 3-4 cups worth, a good amount. To start the water going you simply flip the black button on the handle and the pot will start heating the water, no switches on the base to have to worry about. Within a minute the kettle does start making a bubbling noise signifying that the water is hot (the bubbling/hissing is a little loud but better than an annoying beep). Pretty much as soon as you flip the button on the handle off the kettle goes quite. Overall I think this is a great product, I have not experienced any weird chemical issues that other reviewers posted.

Super efficient water-heating pot October 2, 2008

Heats water in a few seconds. Boils in about a minute. This has to be the most efficient, least-energy-used way to heat water with electricity. Safe because only glass and stainless steel touch the water. Directions say, put only water in it. But of course you can use it for tea, coffee, dish water!
