wonderful product, it really does make yogurt January 19, 2008

My wife has been trying to make yogurt for quite some time. She has tried the oven technique, careful temperature monitoring and various other book-suggested methods. I bought her this one, just as another method to tryout. It really works. Will the yogurt look like or have the same type of consistency as store bought yogurt.....no. but it comes pretty close to it. I read some of the reviews saying that it does not make yogurt like you can buy in the store. To that I say " you will be enjoying natural yogurt with more nutrition (probiotic). Store-bought yogurt actually defeats the whole purpose of eating yogurt with your meal. You can make store-bought like consistancy if you incorporate little bit of pectine or soluble fibre like agar agar powder. If you don't like the excess water in home made yogurt, it is better to strain the water out with a cheese cloth. In that case you don't have to add extra powder milk.

I have just made my first yogurt with the Salton YM9 1 quart Yogurt maker. It is so delicious that I wanted to share my joy. I followed the instructions as printed in the manual; using 2% milk and 1/3 cup+ of dry whole milk. It is just yummy. I have been buying the Greek Yogurt that costs $4.50 for 16 oz. and this is actually better. I prefer mine over theirs. Clearly, I strongly recommend this product. Best. MWJ Gainesville, Fl.

Item was smaller than expected but works and Came timely and worked appropriately and delivery time was good and was packaged well. I sent my mother one.

I never imagined how much I would love this machine! Yogurt is easy to make - delicious and smooth. You can make it thin (like a smoothie) or thick. For a sweetner, I either add jam or syrups that you would typically put in coffee (torani).
