Norpro 2-Tablespoon Stainless Steel Scoop

The all metal construction seems like it would be better than other scoops of this design that use plastic gears, but unfortunately under heavy use even these metal gears slip and the scoop fails.

The problem is that when you really have some tough ice cream, when you squeeze the handle to activate the scraper that will release the cream from the scoop, the resistance of the cream causes you to have to squeeze hard. When you squeeze hard enough, the rack of teeth gives a little bit against the brace that holds the rack against the gear, and the rack slips. Once that happens, the gears lose their synchronization and then you need to repair the scoop. Despite not being sturdy enough to handle the ice cream, it is plenty sturdy enough to resist being repaired. It's difficult, and then it just fails again anyway.

I find that if you have hard ice cream to scoop the more this ice cream scooper breaks. Squeezing this hard sometimes pushes it out of it's gears and it is a pain to get it back on line.
More of a headache than useful..
