3 out of 5 stars so far okay   December 26, 2007
So far so good. The knives arrived extremely sharp and so far are in fair shape (2 months). Not too sure if the serrated end on the chef knife is going to hold up to serious use (Meats thrice a week) though. A few edges may have begun to bend.

But all in all I like them. The balance is pretty good and for under thirty dollars you can complain...well too much.

Cheers and happy cooking.

4 out of 5 stars Decent everyday set   December 24, 2007

For the lower priced set, this has been a good product. Great value, sharp knives, attractive stainless, comfortable handles and for those who care, a name brand that your visitors won't turn their nose at.

5 out of 5 stars For $40 I'll give it five stars   December 21, 2007

It's a J.A. Henckels so the warranty is going to be pretty decent, if the materials and craftmanship were overlooked a bit on this particular set. I got this as a gift for my sister a couple of years ago. She's not particular about things and isn't wise to the fact that not one of my Henckel knives cost less than what this whole set cost. Four years later, my sister still likes her set. Says it is holding up well. What more can you ask of a $40 set that comes with a block and a brand name?

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk!   December 5, 2007

As someone who cooks a lot, I am a big fan of the J.A. Henkels Twin Pro S series of knives. When my grandmother needed a new set of knives, I felt I could not go wrong with these J.A. Henckels - unfortunately I was dead wrong!

Now, I knew I was not buying that the best of knives, but these things have an extremely flimsy blade with no carbon content, they are all serrated and cannot be sharpened, they feel inferior even when compared with off-brand economic knives and are not even heavy or stiff enough to execute a controlled cut of anything. Occasionally, I have had no choice but to use these when helping my grandmother out, both she and I have managed to accidentally slice our fingers with these things, and the handle of th 8" chefs knife has been loose for quite some time, and although they are dishwasher safe, that poor chefs knive is pitted with rust spots. They are awful! Now (less than 2 years later) I need to get her another set. For a much lower price than what I paid for this set (two years ago: $70), I'm debating the 10 piece Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan knives or possibly springing for the 7 piece Henckel Twin Signature as she (and I) tend to use only a few of the knives frequently - each of which I have actually used.

5 out of 5 stars Affordable and Well-Made Knife Set   October 30, 2007

I was very happy with the price of this product. Obviously, these aren't knives that you will pass on to your grandchildren, but they are knives that you will use for a number of years before graduating to another knife set. The knives are super sharp, and they look great in the wooden block. They are well made, and they fit nicely in the palm of my hand. I highly recommend them for college students, singles and any other person who wants a well-crafted knife set but doesn't need them to last for the next thirty years.
