4 out of 5 stars How to use this product   January 2, 2002

Wanted to note that this coffee maker will put grounds in your coffee if you use the amount of water and grounds that the package instructions tell you to. The package instructions say to use about 2.5 tablespoons of grounds and almost a full mug of water. When I did that I got grounds in my coffee. When I use about 2/3 or 3/4 a mug of water and 1 scoop (about 1 tablespoon) of grounds, I got a great tasting cup of coffee with no grounds. NOTE: I use fine ground coffee though - which means I get a stronger taste with less grounds.

This is the perfect little coffee maker to sit on my desk at work. The mug does a great job of keeping the coffee warm long after it is brewed.

3 out of 5 stars Convenient item but plastic taste   December 27, 2001

This svelte brewer has a lot to recommend it: doesn't take up much space on your kitchen counter or desk, no more little white filters and no more need to transfer your coffee from a regular mug to a travel mug. But the most important thing - the taste - is lacking! No matter what I did to the coffee: type, grind, amount of water - it tasted like plastic. I am not a coffee snob, but I like a full-bodied cup without a weird aftertaste, and this little item does not deliver on that. It has so much to recommend it - turns itself off automatically after brewing, the travel mug keeps coffee hot for over an hour and it does not have a hot burner like some of the earlier versions. But the coffee tastes BAD and that was it for me - back to my decade-old Melitta!

4 out of 5 stars Great when you don't want to brew a whole pot!   December 18, 2001

I live with people who enjoy really watered-down coffee...definitely not my taste. So I asked my brother to get me this as a gift, and it works great! The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 was because the mug provided really doesn't do much except collect the coffee -- I have a larger stainless steel mug which I pour straight from the mug provided (as the mug provided really doesn't keep liquids hot for any length of time). Cleanup is quick and easy. Usually I just run the filter, basket and mug under cold water, and its ready for my next mug of coffee. The coffee came out fresh-tasting, exactly as it should be. Definitely a good buy if a) you are the only coffee drinker of your household, or b) only need a small amount to get you through the morning.

3 out of 5 stars Sounds better than it is   November 16, 2001
I love the concept of this little coffee maker. It is convenient and quick, perfect for my needs. The problem is the mess it creates. The water is distributed so fast and hard it spills the coffee grounds over the sides of the filter. After every use I not only have to wash out the permanent filter (no big deal), but also the water reservoir and setion which holds the filter and basket. This product flaw makes "convenience" a misnomer. My husband has a one-cup Mr. Coffee in his office and although it is slower to brew, there is no mess.
