3 out of 5 stars Better than nothing   November 6, 2003

This sharpener uses two sets of wheels, one to sharpen and one to hone. It hones well but is limited in its ability to sharpen. The wheels are in the same slot. In theory you might use both in one pass, but in practice I found that changing your hand position changes which set of wheels contacts the blade. Knowing this, you can sharpen and hone separately. The Twin Sharp is handy for touch-ups and I used it between regular sharpenings until I gave it to a friend. Learn more at http://www.ameritech.net/users/knives/index.htm

I give this thing an A+. I have a set of 14 year old Henkle four stars that I have never sharpened with anything other than the steel. I needed something more. This thing worked very, very well for me and the price is not bad at all. Needless to say my knives are now as sharp as when they were new. I'm pleased with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Great Knife Sharpener   March 6, 2003

I have a bunch of Henckels 4 star knives. I purchased them in the late 70's. Well never having time to take them anywhere to have them sharpened, I was in desperate need of a sharpener. This thing worked wonders. I tried cutting into a carrot after sharpening each knife and it was effortless. It took a few run throughs the sharpener, but it was so easy to do. I am extremely happy with this product. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Quick and easy   February 21, 2003

This sharpener worked fine for touching up the edges on my knives (4 star Henckels and some random no-names). For edges that have a correct existing bevel and are dull but not abused, restores a fine edge fast. If the existing bevel is too steep or otherwise messed up this may not work (it's not a grinder). Takes some attention to get a smooth pass without chattering.

1 out of 5 stars A Failure   February 10, 2003

I'm not sure why this sharpener didn't work for me, but it left the Sabatier knives I used on it duller than they were prior to sharpening. I read, re-read and read again the instructions and can't understand why I didn't get good results. I should have purchased a Chef's Choice, a sharpener I've had good results with in the past.
