Developed a crack after 1 year November 26, 2007

I didn't drop it. I don't have a dishwasher. It's never been heated. Even so, the glaze on the butter cup developed a crack. I don't think the ceramic under the crack is cracked but the butter has been seeping into the crack and discoloring the ceramic underneath. I don't feel it's safe anymore. I'm tossing it out and getting something with a tougher surface.

I love the idea though and it worked well for several months.

I bought this because it was inexpensive and had free shipping. It was worth every penny of the $7. The butter stays nice and soft and doesn't get all icky like it does in a regular butter dish. I don't know how it will do in the summer, but for moderate weather it works great.

This item goes to show that some old-fashioned products are better than newer ones. This keeps butter usable, soft and fresh. I rarely keep this amount of butter for 30 days, so don't let the time-limit scare you off.

This product works well. Just a minor note - you keep having to put more and more water in as you use up the butter so that towards the end you have a lot of water sealing a little bit of butter. Overall though, it is a good product.

I love my butter keeper. The price was very comparable to those I've seen in the kitchen stores, maybe a bit cheaper. The quality is just as good. One word of caution: be SURE to change the water as directed (at the most, every three days) If you don't, you'll get mold on the butter. Once the level of the butter is reduced to about half full, I just throw a couple of ice cubes in the cup and turn the base upside down onto the cup and then flip it over for counter storage.
