3 out of 5 stars It's Ok but....   July 3, 2008

I have made several loafs of bread using this machine. I am not pleased with the crust on this bread. The top is jagged and uneven and the sides are hard. It creates a "hard" shell but the inside is soft. So if you want to cut the crust off then you will have a perfect loaf of bread.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy!!   July 3, 2008

My experience level: Made one loaf of rye bread before this purchase

My first try: Great! Made the recipe for the plain white. Did not have any dried milk so I substituted buttermilk for the water and dried milk. I incorrectly scooped the bread flour with the measuring cup.

Since I read that buttermilk makes the crust browner, I used the light crust setting.

I looked at what was going on during the kneading process. I had purchased the Betty Crocker bread cookbook and it showed a picture that made me think the batter was too dry. I added a teaspoon of water at a time, then a tablespoon at a time and made it a little too moist. Patience! :)

The Results: The Zojirushi BBCCx20 did an excellent job. The bread was a little moist but really good. I liked it, my wife liked it, my daughter liked it and so did my Yorkie.

What I would do differently next time: Not scoop the floor, weigh the ingredients, and record the kneading results, add water or flour as needed during kneading, record how much I added, and change make my recipe to reflect the water or flour I added for next time.

The Zojirushi BBCCx20 was very quite. Could not hear it at all.

I would buy it again and again!

5 out of 5 stars Zojirushi rocks   June 29, 2008

Less than a month in, I have made at least a loaf every other day with my Zojirushi. Every loaf has tasted great. Some look funny, like rough surf, on top, but the ease and quality can't be beat. I have even made jam and pizza dough, and they were wonderful and easy also. If you are paying $4-5 a loaf for local bakery bread, you can make homemade equivalent loaves for about $1.25 per loaf. Laminate the directions because you will use them to death. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars The absolute BEST Bread maker!   June 29, 2008

I owned a "ZO" many years ago before one of long jaunts to Europe where I used it with a transformer and LOVED the results - then I came home between assignments and somehow my "Zo" no longer worked correctly with USA current - so I relegated it to a sad corner of my storage. Just recently I decided I wanted another one and may I say, the results are even better than before ( and I didn't think that was possible) . They are expensive and that's a consideration, but the performance level in comparison is way above the others, hands down! You have to decide if you want consistent results or just ho-hum. For me, "no fail" is what I was looking for - follow your recipes and measure and that is what you get with the magnificent "Zo"!

5 out of 5 stars Successful Bread Baking Everytime!   June 27, 2008
I hadn't used any bread machines before, so this was a first for me. I'd read many brand reviews online and have friends who have this brand, so I tried it on a recommendation. It's fabulous. Takes 5 mins. to get your ingredients in, and you're finished. Loaf comes out fairly easily (might have to tap the pan hard a few times or use a spatula to loosen it), it's beautiful and nicely browned (on highest crust setting). Use the basic white bread recipe that comes with it; it's the best. I think you'll be very happy with your choice of brands and this particular model!
