5 out of 5 stars They work   November 3, 2003

I was actually surprised to find that wine *did* taste better from these glasses than what I'd used before. (Hmmm -- not necessarily better; bad wines taste worse, an unanticipated consequence.) In addition, the glasses are simple but pretty without being so expensive that I'm afraid to use them. I'm even willing to put them in the dishwasher, an important consideration for a self-indulgent bachelor. (I did manage to break one, though -- my own fault.) All in all, could hardly have been better.

5 out of 5 stars These are being used in Napa Vallery for tastings   September 15, 2003

In August of this year my Fiancé and I visited Napa Valley for an extensive wine tasting vacation. Our trip was to enjoy ourselves dining and buying cases of wine. Much to our surprise many of the wineries were using these Riedel Ouverture glasses as their standard tasting glasses for tasting in the better rooms. We found the difference between these Riedel glasses and no name glasses to be substantial. Riedel has found a good balance between price and wine presentation. Being a klutz I also found these glasses are delicate though I only broke two glasses in 51 tastings.

5 out of 5 stars Glad I did it   August 31, 2003

I was somewhat leary of ordering these glasses because of one of the reviews. It really had more to do with the shipping problems. End of story, mine arrived in perfect condition. I love the way these glasses bring out the best in a bottle of wine. Can make good wine taste even better! The best part is I didn't have to break the bank in order to buy Riedel glassware.

4 out of 5 stars They don't ship well   July 13, 2003

But they're nice. We ordered 8. The first box from Amazon got here with 5 broken. I wrote Amazon and they refilled the order with a brand new box of 4 which would have given us nine. It wasn't to be. One was busted in the second box. Now we have eight, after having been shipped 12.
They're very nice. A little delicate looking, so I'd recommend keeping them out of the dishwasher..
Don't really see how Amazon is making money on these..

4 out of 5 stars Great, but Fragile glasses   March 18, 2003

These glasses are quite nice- they definitely bring out the best in whatever reds they are served with. Considering the price, it is a bargain. Despite not having been made from crystal, the quality is outstanding for an everyday-use glass. However, be careful when handling these! I had an accident with one of the glasses the first time I used it (actually when washing it). When washing by hand, be extremely careful handling the glasses- one light tap against the sink and it broke. First time this has happened to me- sad to see it break. That's the only thing standing in the way of a 5 star rating.
