5 out of 5 stars Great item   January 31, 2006

I already had some of these and like them so much that I bought this set. I am converting my plastic storage containers to glass ones because of the risk of plastic chemicals seeping into the food when heated. I have been very pleased with these containers. They go into the freezer, refrigerator, microwave, and even the oven. The plastic lid is a good tight seal without being too difficult to remove. It does make carrying my lunch to work a little heavier, since the glass weighs more than plastic, but I think it's worth it for the health benefits.

5 out of 5 stars Explosions and such. . .   January 17, 2006

I just wanted to share that I believe this to be an excellent product. . .That is. . .if you use it IN THE WAY IT IS INTENDED TO BE USED. I would be willing to bet that the folks who are having explosion issues are having them becuase this is not a BAKEWARE set. It is a STORAGE set. You wouldn't expect to cook a roast in a tupperware bowl, would you?!!

Pyrex is an 80 year old name and I have used their products in the kitchen and in the laboratory for years. If you are looking for quality bakeware, I would highly recommend the Pyrex's 16-pc. BAKING starter set and use the storage set for. . .umm. . .STORAGE.

Sheesh.

Despite there being no cautionary in the instructions, the lids should not be placed in the microwave because they will warp. I was concerned about other reviewers' claims that the dishes could explode. Fortunately I don't have to worry about kids' safety since they are all grown.

I am now covering my Pyrex with microwave-safe wrap and have encountered no problems. If you are just heating clear liquid, Alton Brown suggests placing a wooden chopstick in the bowl so that the liquid does not become superheated.

All-in-all, a very inexpensive purchase and 'Made in the USA'!

1 out of 5 stars Avoid it!   December 4, 2005

I bought a 10 piece set at Bed Bath and Beyond two years ago. I was doing the dishes and the pan i made lasagna in fell into the sink from the dish rack and it made a huge "bam!" but the pyrex wasn't damaged so i put it back on the rack and walked away (thank God). About ten seconds later I heard an explosion... the pyrex shattered with shards of glass all over my kitchen. Needless to say, I carefully took all of my pyrex out of my cupboards and chucked it. I still freak out when ever I think of all the potential things that could have happened if I or my kids were in the kitchen when that happened.
