2 out of 5 stars Not recommended for the elderly   March 13, 2007

I bought this for my 82 year old mother in law - thinking it would be easier than peeling potatoes and vegetables the 'old fashioned way'. It isn't. If a person is losing the strength in their hands or wrists for ANY reason, this would not be the product to choose. Actually it isn't the product I thought it would be. It is well made, and has a nice stainless steel bowl (the only part she uses).

1 out of 5 stars Waste of money   March 10, 2007

The Hoffritz Mandoline slicer was very difficult to use, came with only two blades, the others being plastic and were absolutely useless. I tossed it out it was a total waste of money!

I use this product in a soup kitchen. There are things you need to know.
1. Don't let the bowl get too full, when this happens the food gets stuck in the blade.
2.Put a towel under the bowl.. The rubber grips will stain under the bowl.
3. Use one hand to grip the bowl through the top.
4. When using tomatoes make sure they are firm.
I really love this product and going to order 2 more. For $25 this is almost disposible.

3 out of 5 stars Good machine and concept... just a small warning, though...   January 10, 2007

If you have wrist problems, don't buy this machine. The potatoes are hard to push through because they are so dense and I have tendinitis. When I was using the mandoline regularly with potatoes, I had a flare up of tendinitis which took days to recover from. I've not used it with any other vegetables though, so it's not fair to say it's not a good product.

So far so good. The product seems to be well made and designed. My wife enjoys using it and is pleased with the results
