It easily chops ice. We have used it for smoothies, soups etc. Probably not the best gourmet blender out there but for practical purposes...excellent.

This blender makes wonderful Smoothies....grinds every piece of ice to a super-smooth consistancy. So far, have had no problems with the bottom gear breaking. I recommend this blender highly.

I bought this item because it was rated high by Consumer Reports. After a couple of months some of the plastic teeth (that spin the blades in the Jug) have already broken off. I am very disappointed with this item!

I had one unit malfunction on me and the motor just seized up for no reason... within one week of owning it.

The second unit seems to be OK. While it is working, it is a wonderful blender.

Just make sure you buy it from a place like Amazon where returns will be easy, in case you have the same kind of luck with it that I did.

Quiet, works well. I think I was expecting more, but realistically, it is a very fine product.
