3 out of 5 stars nice but not perfect tea pot   October 21, 2007
The Bodum Assam 6-cup tea pot works well when used with the tea press, particularly if you place the loose-leaf tea inside a paper tea filter so the smallest particles do not migrate into the tea during the brewing period. But the tea pot cannot be used for storing the tea because the tea pot's top only works when attached to the tea press. Once the tea is brewed, you must either transfer the tea to a different pot with a top or you must leave the tea in this tea pot without a top. I would be happier with this product if it came with a top that allowed it to be used after the brewing is completed.

1 out of 5 stars Bad design, or my particular one is defective?   September 24, 2007

I was pretty shocked by so many high ratings for the large tea pot. Maybe mine is defective? It's such a simple mechanism; I did not notice any missing or broken pieces so it isn't defective but is poorly designed.

The plunger in the lid doesn't stay 'up.' Put tea in the infuser, pour in water, put the lid on, and the plunger immediately sinks due to its weight and presses the tea to the bottom of the infuser where there are no holes so the water stays just water, never becoming tea.

The problem is a bad design where there is nothing to stop the plunger from sinking. Another bad aspect of the design is you cannot use the lid without the infuser, the lid rests on the infuser and would fall into the pot if the infuser weren't there. This means this tea pot cannot be used as a general-purpose pot with a lid.

I would never buy this pot had I known of these problems.

Two good things about this pot are it's glass and plastic so if you remove the lid (with its metal components), the pot can be microwaved. The other good thing is it came with a cork trivet.

4 out of 5 stars Bodum Assam Tea Press   July 15, 2007

I am very happy with my Bodum Tea Press. I wanted a glass tea pot that would make more than the usual two or four cups. This is the ony one that I found. When I lived in Denmark I became familiar with Bodum and it is now my favorite brand. The only feature that I don't like and I hope they will improve it, is that I store my pot in the fridge so I have tea for a few days, and there is no top to it. The tea press top doesn't fit unless you keep the press part in it at all times and I don't want to store it in the fridge with the press inside of my brewed tea.

5 out of 5 stars Tea lover's delight   July 9, 2007
It's taken a while for Bodum to perfect this teapot. I first bought one several years ago and found it wonderful to use, but with one major flaw: it was very easy to implode the pot when pulling out the plunger for cleaning. I went through two teapots in this way, but kept buying replacements because it's so good in every other way.

Bodum has now altered the design slightly, and the new pot avoids the implosion problem.

So, what's so good about it?

* It pours beautifully.
* Because it's a press, you can stop the tea from brewing past a chosen strength.
* The press acts as a strainer, too, so your tea is leaf-free.

If you use very fine leafed tea, you'll need to fill it slowly as the basket strains the tea as you pour; with big-leafed teas (such as Twinings Earl Grey) the process is appreciably faster.

4 out of 5 stars Afternoon Tea All Day Long   May 30, 2007

I am a tea drinker. For breakfast tea, I will make a pot of Earl Grey. I like the flavor of Earl Grey made in the tea press. I will drink from that pot until about 10:00 AM,

That's when I boil another kettle of water, and make a pot of white tea in the Bodum Tea Press. This pot of tea is brewed with a measure of cinnammon and a couple of teaspoons of white tea. I drink this tea throughout the afternoon. When it gets too cool, I microwave my cup of tea for about a minute. Works good.

I am going to get the four cup Bodum Tea Press for my daughter because she likes to enjoy a cup of tea in the mornings on the way to work. The tea press will be easy for her to use and clean.
