3 out of 5 stars Mixed review, but still recommend   May 13, 2008

Of the four recipes that I've tried so far, I've enjoyed the ones that don't rely so much on fat-free products. The chopped buffalo salad was spicy, delicious, and quite filling, but I don't think that it tasted just like the industrial-strength version. It was easy to make and I recommend it to anyone who likes spicy food.

I was a little wary of the English muffin pizzas because I used to make those as a kid and never really cared for them. I also have never been crazy about turkey pepperoni. I added some pizza seasoning to the tomato sauce and cooked the pizzas in the oven rather than a toaster oven. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty these little pizzas turned out - even with the fat-free mozzarella cheese. The turkey pepperoni was crispy and the pizzas (made from one English muffin) satisfied my hunger.

My husband liked the twice-baked potato, but I thought that it tasted strange. The mixture wasn't too cheesy and had an odd taste and consistency. I'm not a big fan of baked potatoes, but if I were to make this recipe again, I might use reduced fat cheese rather than fat-free cheese. And yes, I know that will change the calorie and fat content of the recipe.

The onion ring recipe was very disappointing. While the rings smelled and looked good, they didn't taste as great as the author promised they would. They were dry and sweet-tasting. I've tried other mock onion ring recipes before and have been let down. I think that I will stick to the fried ones in moderation when I do indulge.

One thing that I do like about this recipe book is that it doesn't tout a plan with all kinds of restrictions. I plan to use some of the recipes in this book along with some other resources that I have in my quest to eat healthier.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cookbook   May 13, 2008
I've been a subscribing member to Hungry Girl's email for about 6 months. And when I heard that they were coming out with this cookbook, I was so excited. And this book did not let me down. I like to eat, but I don't like cooking. The recipes in this book are simple, use few ingredients, easy to make, and are very tasty. I don't even look at my other cookbooks anymore. It doesn't even feel like it's a cookbook!

5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for Hungry Girl!   May 12, 2008

I have been a fan of the Hungry Girl website for a while now. It's so wonderful to finally have a collection of what I consider fabulous recipes right in front of me. I am NEVER disappointed in HG's recipes and Lisa is dead on when she says something is tasty (or not). My daughter made HG's delicious turkey meatloaf (from the HG book) for a terrific Mother's Day dinner for me. She followed it with HG's pudding/CoolWhip ice cream cone for dessert. I couldn't have asked for a better Mother's Day dinner!

The nutritional content is excellent information that is printed with every recipe in the book. I use my Weight Watchers point "slider" as a book marker so I can calculate the number of points in each dish.

The price of the book was extremely reasonable, too. I hope the NEXT book from HG has more color pictures though. I know it's expensive to print color photos but would be HAPPY TO PAY MORE $$ for the book if it had pictures for each recipe. You hear me HG?

5 out of 5 stars Mother's Day lifesaver!!   May 12, 2008

First of all, I love the book!! I had dozens of recipes from the website, printed out from over the last two years, in a binder titled "Hungry Mom". I couldn't wait to get the book and try more HG recipes. I showed it to my co-workers and they said they were going right out to buy the book for their moms for Mother's Day!! Woohoo! Hungry Girl to the rescue. It's priced right and reads well, with tips on every page.

4 out of 5 stars Fun Cook Book   May 11, 2008

This is a simple, fun cook book for non-serious dieters. It's especially helpful for children's and young people who like "junk" food.
It's very entertaining and has many easy substitutions that save calories.
Don't get me wrong it's certainly worth buying !!!!!!!!
