5 out of 5 stars A must have for any kitchen   April 14, 2008
After years of toilling with an old fashined grader for making lemon cakes, lime cookies, etc, I picked one of these up.

First off, throw your old grader away and never try to zest with it again. The microplane makes the work so much easier and QUICKER! A full lemon takes just 30 seconds to zest, pecorion romano and parmigiano reggiano melt off this thing as if it were on fire!

I've since bought a few others in assorted sizes.

5 out of 5 stars Microplane Grater / Zester   March 25, 2008
Slickest gadget for grating/zesting money can buy. Inexpensive, well made and quick delivery. Recommend to anyone wanting to slick up an operation.

5 out of 5 stars Dream zester!   March 15, 2008
I was so impressed at a friend's house by this zester that I searched on Amazon until I found it. I ordered three of them. One for me and two for possible gifts. The order arrived quickly and I finally had the best zester ever in my home.
I cannot wait until I see a lemon to use it. Nothing is wasted and I now have a special bowl in my fridge for zest to use with veggies or whatever. The Microplane zester is efficient, quick, and easy to use. Getting zest for a recipe was a chore - no more... I love this zester!

5 out of 5 stars The "go-to" grater   March 13, 2008
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

OK, I've now got too many five star reviews - that's what happens when you trust the Amazon reviewers before you buy - you end up satisfied.

And this little grater is very satisfying. I keep three ziplock bags in my freezer, orange, lemon and lime, and I don't touch a piece of citrus without running this grater over it, tossing the zest into the proper bag and back into the freezer for future use.

The freezer is your friend for soft products, too. Some reviewers don't like this grater for cheddars, for example. I keep a chunk of cheddar in the freezer just to use with this plane - it works great.

And you don't have to lean into this grater like some other products. Concentrate on moving your hand parallel to the grater with a very light pressure, and you'll end up with fewer of the skinless knuckles some other reviewers have mentioned.

And the reviewer who explained that this grater ruined parmesan by "breaking down the amino acid crystals" - you owe me a new keyboard - I spit a mouthful of good Dutch lager all over mine. It turns out my organic chem buddies have been doing deamidation of lysine the wrong way all these years - all they needed was a sharp grater. Here's a tip - if you're grating something with "amino acid crystals" large enough for this grater to even notice, you don't have parmesan - what you have is a lab experiment gone wrong. Too funny.

Seriously, though, get one of these graters. It may not be the grater you use for everything, but I'll bet it turns out being the grater you use most.

5 out of 5 stars best hard cheese grater you can buy   March 5, 2008
I love my Microplane zester! It has earned its stellar reputation. On lemons and ginger it zests smoothly and without tearing up the fruit underneath. It turns hard cheeses into piles of fluffy shavings with minimal effort. Also, because of the handle and design, I've never injured myself with this grater -- a miracle in and of itself! However, it does not work well on soft cheese.
